Getting started
How do I sign in?

Email + password. Your password is stored only as a bcrypt hash — a one-way scramble we can't reverse. Forgot it? Email admin@panbuddha.ca and a human will verify it's you and reset it (self-serve reset is on the way).

Is it the same account on the app and the website?

Yes. One email = one account = one set of groups and events, whether you're on iOS, Android, or your laptop.

How do I join a group?

Three ways:

  1. Scan the QR poster the group's admin has up at the park / school / playdate — auto-joins you, no approval needed.
  2. Accept an emailed invite — same auto-join behaviour.
  3. Browse public groups and tap "Request to join." The admin approves you next time they're in the app.
How do I create a group?

Open the app → Browse groups → Create. Free accounts can admin one group. To run more, upgrade to Leader.

Why charge for AI?

The Claude API calls behind templates and discovery scans cost real money per request. Charging only the leaders who use them keeps the social side free for everyone else without us running ads or selling data.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — Profile → Subscription → Cancel, no questions asked. Your plan keeps working until the end of the billing period. We honour a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first paid month (email us for the refund).

What happens to my groups if I downgrade?

You keep them. Existing events, polls, and members are unaffected. You just can't create new ones past the free caps until you upgrade again.

Privacy & safety
Who can see my family's photos?

Photos appear only on signed-in, members-only pages — there is no public profile page and nothing links them on the open web. Photo files are served at unguessable addresses; adding per-file membership checks is on our hardening roadmap (see the Transparency page).

Do you have ads?

No. Zero. We make money from subscriptions and a small service fee on group money pools — never from ads or your data.

Do you sell or share my data?

No — your data is never sold or shared for advertising. Providers that process data to run the service: Brevo (email delivery), the Expo + Apple/Google push services (notifications), Stripe (payments), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (venue address lookup), Jitsi (live video rooms), and Anthropic's Claude (AI discovery — it never receives personal data). What each one sees is documented on our Transparency page.

Can kids use the app directly?

No. Villagely is for adults coordinating activities for their kids. Children's profiles are entered by their parent. We will never add a kid login.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Delete account (it asks you to confirm — deletion is irreversible). You can also email us and we'll do it for you. Exactly what deletion covers is documented on our Transparency page.

Technical
Why isn't the iOS / Android app available yet?

It's in preview testing with our founding families right now. Store release is in preparation.

Does the web version work on my phone?

Yes — and it's also a PWA, so you can install it from Chrome / Safari to your home screen and get push notifications without the App Store.

What if I forget my email?

Email us. We can confirm ownership another way and move your data.
